Nyse bullish index

The Bullish Percent Index (BPI) is a breadth indicator based on the number of stocks on Point & Figure Buy Signals within an index. Developed by Abe Cohen in the mid-1950s, the Bullish Percent Index was originally applied to NYSE stocks.

The bullish percent index is generally plotted on with a two-point box size. Later in this article, we will cover how to confirm bull and bear markets. The NYSE Bullish Percent Index tells us what percentage of stocks, listed in the New York Stock Exchange, are on "buy signals". These (P&F) "buy signals" are seen when a stock breaks above a past key resistance level after being on a sell signal. Most chart readers would see it on a line chart like this: Yesterday the NYSE Bullish Percent Index [ $BPNYA ] fell below 70%. This is a warning that the market is on shaky ground and defensive tactics should be initiated. According to the rules, all Bullish Percent Indexes indicate the percentage of stocks in an Index or Sector ETF that have a Point & Figure Buy Signal Each chart below is shown with the corresponding Index or ETF New Highs/Lows only includes stocks traded on NYSE, NYSE Arca, Nasdaq or OTCBB exchanges with over 5 days of prices, with a last price above $0.25 and below $10,000, and with volume greater than 1000 shares. Calculations are adjusted for stock splits but not dividend distributions.
